I don’t really have many nicknames. Some people call me “Maddie”, and I’ve been called “Madz” or “Mads”. Old ones are “Zimmy” or “Z”. I guess “Perfect” could be considered a nickname. I don’t know. I’m not really one for nick-names.

My eyes are one of the few things I’m confident that I like about myself.

My backpack is a somber blue, with fraying zippers and pulls. Age is evident in the rips found in every tired area; attempted mending shown through the stray threads two shades too light. An industrial grey accents the blue, stretch marks the afterwards of education and recreation birthed through the pockets and sections of the bag. Stained with travel and highlighter ink, the netting of the side is torn and empty, no longer of value but still a part of the hole. Pins hang loosely from the front section: bright among the faded colours. The straps of the bag are stretched and long, comfortably lying upon the shoulders of the wearer. Old and traveled the bag lies alone most days, nothing bearing within its womb but the memories of prepubescent schoolwork and weekend night outings.
